the term varied from tribe to tribe and there are many different names for it
Two spirit people were believed to manifest both a masculine and feminine spirit and were considered a staple of the tribe
They were story tellers, fortune tellers, medicine people, makers of feather regalia for dances, matchmakers, etc.
They could wear clothes for either gender and have relations with people of either gender
It was believed that to have sex with a two spirited person could give you magic abilities and good luck, now while that probably won’t happen
it’s a beautiful idea to see it as not having a spirit in the wrong body or a malfunctioning spirit but instead being blessed with two spirits and understanding of both feminine and masculine things
