Captures that blended aroma of fried chicken and the welfare office in one easy spray can.
I am only reblogging this because of the comment above. I don’t find it funny at all.
I am black… But I am not African American. I simply never understood the whole fried chicken, watermelon, welfare et al jokes. Remember, the propaganda that built these stereotypes were created by whites many years ago. We saw it films, in racially charged art, in many other forms of media to have the African American appear to be inferior.
I am in NYC and there are plenty of HRA offices that a person can walk into and see that 90% of those applying for services are caucasian. That being said, you can live in a mostly white county or state in the US and when a story comes on your local news about the poor and people on Public Assistance you will always see blacks and/latinos in that segment. It is almost to say, “this is where you belong” And the rest of America has gotten used to seeing this on TV so, the stereotype is created.
It’s all around us… From the mostly Black centered advertising for fast food…. To the old Newport cigarettes billboards in black neighborhoods (the worst cigarettes anyone could ever smoke).
Anyway… I could go on and on.
My 2 cents.
