Richard Overton is the world’s oldest living World War II veteran. On Thursday, May 11, he accomplished another incredible milestone: turning 111 years old.
Overton was born in Bastrop County in 1906, served in the Pacific Theater with the Army’s all-black 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1942 to 1945.
I’m so proud of him. He made history, he witnessed history happening, he faced the oppression, he saw the world changing and he looks so great. I’d love to hear stories he has to share, i want to know what he has been through. I mean, stories of people like him need to be told, the wisdom he carries with him is so necessary to pass to the other generations. He deserves to be acknowledged and remembered. Inspiration.
