I guess for a person in recovery it would be a personal decision. One does have to eat, and if it bothers you, then you probably should not choose the item on the menu that has a wine sauce or liqueur in it. If you are choosing the meal because it has alcohol in it, then you probably should choose something else.
Sometimes, a person may be a guest at someone’s home and won’t know that a dish was cooked with alcohol and probably won’t be in a position to ask beforehand. Again, I believe it’s up to the individual whether they will have meals that are cooked with alcohol. Talk to someone in your support network.
Don’t let anyone judge you for choosing Yea of Nay.
Today, 2 years ago, was my first day without smoking a cigarette!
I had my first drag when I was 11 years old (I’m 40 years old now). I would take a ciggy from my grandmother and try it. Of course I felt sick, but I thought I found something that separated me from the others. The kids that bullied me in JHS. After that school was shut down, I went to a different school, one grade behind because of all my cutting class to escape those that taunted me. I wanted top fit in and started buying my own packs. ($2.20 back then).
I smoked for years, I may have quit quit here and there (1 year, 3 years, a few months) but I always went back to ciggies; my first tangible drug.
I still have cravings but I am choosing life instead. It feels great to be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being short of breath by the time i get to the landing. I was cutting back on cigarettes about 4 years ago. Believe it, or not, when i was using crystal meth, I did not smoke cigarettes much. I would say that I purchased a pack every 3 days. That’s a savings of over $1400 a year by quitting. For a pack-a-day smoker, quitting smoking in NYC would save them over $4300 a year.
I will push through my cravings. I think I’ll have a light breakfast and head to the gym.
A third of the 1.2 million Americans with HIV currently use drugs or binge on alcohol. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the sharing of contaminated injection equipment that primarily links drug use to the HIV epidemic. Rather, drug as well as alcohol use can impair judgment and lead to risky sexual behavior and HIV transmission. This is why substance abuse treatment can play an important role in preventing the spread of HIV
Top figure: 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, From 2005 to 2009, 1 in 3 persons with HIV was a current drug user or binged on alcohol.
Bottom left figure: HIV incidence by transmission, 2009. Sexual contact - 88%, Intravenous Drug User (IDU) - 9%, Sex & IDU, 3%
Bottom right figure - Drug and alcohol use are associated with less frequent condom use. 24% of all persons with HIV are in need of substance abuse treatment

Passenger drank all of his duty free liquor on the flight from Iceland to JFK yesterday. When he became unruly, (i.e. trying to choke the woman next to him and screaming the plane was going to crash), fellow passengers subdued him and tie him up for the rest of the flight. He was escorted off the flight by police when it landed.
'Tis the season...
So, this evening I went to Crudo for a holidays gathering with coworkers. I had a good time… the food was great. Since I do not drink, I had a separate cheque, and I left a early… and upon leaving, I realized something – I used in this very hotel the restaurant is in. about 3 and a half years ago I believe.
I was able to get through the evening being amongst my coworkers getting tipsy that was fine. However, I was thrown back when I was leaving and realized I had been in the hotel before. I obsessed about up until i reached the subway station a few blocks away. The anxiety subsided and I came home.
My anxiety was over the euphoric recall; how quickly the addict mind forgets the horrors of active addiction and focuses on the small moments of drug induced pleasure. Pleasure that I thought I could not have without the drug.
I am so glad that my happiness no longer comes in the form of a bottle, a needle, or a powder. No longer do I need to escape from life… I get to live today.

An MTA Fare Hike may be coming soon. Apparently they are not getting enough money from all the advertisement space…
Speaking of which… This Heineken ad is on every turnstile at the 2 Avenue station of the F line. I believe there is a public school just a few blocks away.
This is what those kids see Monday through Friday, at least twice per day. Along with all the other ads for alcoholic beverages around the stations and in the subway cars.
For shame!!! Soft drinks are not our biggest problem here in NYC! OUTRAGE

I am getting my training to become a CASAC (Credentialed Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor) at ACNY. Well, I learned this week that the organization may have to shut its doors in 2013 after 50 years in providing educational, prevention, outreach, family, youth, and community services to New Yorkers. ***Bill Wilson once served on the Board of this organization.**** It is scary to think that it might close down.
I am asking that anyone in recovery, or anyone who is willing to support their cause, to make a donation to help keep their doors open.
If you are unable to make a donation… Please Tweet this post, Reblog it, +1 on Google, PinIt, and/or Share it on Facebook.
Thank you!

Addict 1:They say they've developed a cure for addiction.
Addict 2:You don't say?
Addict 1:Yeah, all you have to do is take a pill.
Addict 2:I wonder what will happen if you take two.
