Today in 1969, figure skater Rudy Galindo was born. In 1996, Galindo became the first openly gay figure skater to win U.S. National Championship (as well as the only Mexican American, and the oldest man to win in 70 years). He skated to the Ave Maria wearing all black with an AIDS ribbon as a memorial to those he had lost.
