On September 12 of last year, Kam Brock was stopped by the NYPD under suspicion of being high. No marijuana was found on her vehicle, but the NYPD stole her car 2003 BMW 325Ci anyway. (The appropriate term is “confiscate” but please remember the police will literally steal your stuff for no reason and you will likely never get it back.) Why was she stopped in the first place? We can’t be 100% certain, but it’s the NYPD, a Black person driving a BMW, and the charge being suspicion of drug usage, so you can fill in those blanks.
The next day, Brock went to retrieve her car and emotionally admonished those present for putting her through this ordeal in the first place. She was arrested and admitted to Harlem Hospital’s psychiatric ward for 8 days through numerous protests of her sanity. She was finally released with no explanation and no apology, and now Ms. Brock is suing the city.
Much is being made of her race (which, to me, is the most obvious reason why she was stopped in the first place), but I don’t think enough people are addressing the fact that — regardless of race — being instituted against your will is far less likely to happen to a man.
These indictments that are not happening… followed by widespread protests…
Police State? hmmm… is this a prelude to Martial Law? They want us to get violent.. they want us to vandalize and loot… commit assault. They want us to give them a reason for a Police State.
Keep the peace… don’t let them trick us into a Military Regime.
A NYPD officer plans to sue the city for $15 million, saying she has been the victim of a racially and sexually charged work environment since 2011.
Eunice Vilaseca claims her supervisor at the NYPD’s Housing Bureau in the Bronx, Lt. Dennis Azambuja, repeatedly discriminated against her and other minority employees while other supervisors ignored or condoned his actions, according to a notice of claim her lawyers filed March 14.
According to the notice of claim, Azambuja — who works at NYPD’s Public Service Area 8 at the Throggs Neck Houses — announced that he had a “Hit List” of African American and Hispanic workers he disliked for their ethnicity. He also made offensive comments about Vilaseca’s “Spanish hair,” and “openly referred to females as ‘Bitches’” in the workplace, according to the notice of claim filed by the Sanders Firm.
Vilaseca, who is Dominican, said she filed numerous complaints with the Office of Equal Employment and the Internal Affairs Bureau, but that there was no change in Azambuja’s workplace behavior, according to the notice of claim.
According to the Daily News, Vilaseca complained about Azambuja’s behavior, NYPD brass questioned her sanity and put her on modified assignment, Sanders claims.
“It was the same game they played with (Officer Adrian) Schoolcraft,” said Sanders, referring to the Brooklyn cop who was detained by the NYPD and locked in a insane asylum for 6 days against his will when the department realized he was going to public with incriminating evidence against them.
16 year old Kimani “Kiki” Gray was shot 11 times on Saturday by two undercover police officers. Kimani, who begged for his life, told the police “Please don’t let me die,” to which they responded “Stay down, or we’ll shoot you again.”
The police say Kimani was armed but witnesses who attended yesterdays protest say the undercover officers hopped into their car after shooting Kimani and “drove off”, which is definitely against protocol and extremely suspicious to say the least.
Reblog this post to spread the news and if you’re in NYC and will be attending today’s protest, don’t forget to RSVP to the event page.
I’m reposting for those who may have missed it. There will be another protest today at 7pm. It won’t be raining for the rest of the day so don’t let that be an excuse. We are expecting a crowd twice as large as yesterday’s protest. Over 300 have joined the FB event and about another 100 more community members will be attending. You should too.
There will be another protest tonight @ 7. It will be the third protest in a row and the family will be there today. If you can come out, we’re meeting at 55th and Church.
